Turning Green

Most of my brand-new trees are starting to show signs of life already.  I’m very excited to see them put out their first leaves.  I’ve held off on planting my warm-weather crops because I’m planning on a late freeze since we have had so much cold weather this winter.  See the descriptions under the pictures for more information.

I poked this stick off our 'dead' Magnoilia tree in the ground, it is coming back to life!

Bryson’s Third Birthday

Bryson blew out his 3 candles tonight.  We did the ceremony twice because he was so excited he blew out the candles early the first time.  My crazy singing didn’t help, and it was very funny to see him bobbing up and down with anticipation of eating HIS cake.  What a fun time!

I do not like it Uncle Sam…

I do not like it Uncle Sam,
I do not like it Sam I am.
I do not like these dirty crooks,
Neither how they cook the books.
I do not like when Congress steals,
I do not like their secret deals.
I do not like this Speaker Nan,
I do not like this ‘YES WE CAN!’.
I do not like this kind of hope,
I do not like it, nope! nope!…… nope!
If you don’t like this gov’ment bloat,
then pray to God, and people: VOTE!!!

Video: Dasher Crazy in Snow

I always think it is funny when Dasher goes on one of his full-speed running rants in the backyard.  The snow on the ground makes it better!

Snow on Spring Day 2

This is the weekend many folks plant their warm weather vegetable crops, but we’ve been overloaded with SNOW!  Bryson won us over and convinced us to go outside and play.  Notice the picture of the white blooms on the fruit tree covered with snow.

Bryson’s Big Boy Bed

We figured after almost 3 years it was time that Bryson graduated to a bed without bars, so today we converted his bed to a full size.  He was pretty excited about it, and I started feeling nostalgic when we ran across his tiny mattress he first slept on, so I took a few comparison pictures.

Hard 8 BBQ in Coppell

My coworker Mel suggested this place today.  Highly recommended, great Texas-style pit BBQ.  The building is designed with a separated meat cooking/smoking area, with custom pit smokers and firewood stacked everywhere.  You just tell the guy what meats you want, they weigh it, then you walk in and get your bread, sides (including jalapeño cream corn) and feast.  There is also a big bowl of complementary pinto beans.  What else could you ask for?

Controversial Hole In The Deck

I’ve been racking my brain after I ordered some kiwi vines because I didn’t know where to plant them.  They need a strong trellis to grow on and they need full sun.  I thought a good solution was to create some sort of overhead structure on the deck, since there is lots of room there, and it is much more enjoyable in the shade than in the full sun.  The problem is that I designed the two areas that are available to be ‘full sun’ areas, and I didn’t have a real good plan for modifying either area to accommodate an overhead shade structure.  This topic created marital tension when I brought it up to the wife-unit.  “You are not going to cut a hole in MY deck!”  I couldn’t come up with a better plan, and had to get the plants in soil this weekend, so I executed step 1 of the hole-in-the-deck plan and promised the bride that if it looks terrible, I’ll replace the boards so it will look like it used to.
