Bryson in the Snow

Neither Amber or I are very excited about snow.  Bryson, however, really likes to play in it.  Amber was a good mom and let him stop around a bit this afternoon.

Dasher’s Warble Fly

This is pretty gross, but also interesting.  You have been warned.

I took Dasher to the vet this morning because he had chewed on a area of his skin to the point that it had a hole in it.  There was a knot in the area, and it was leaking green puss.  When we got to the vet, they clipped the hair around the area, washed it, then started feeling around.  “Looks like a warble”, he said, then I replied, “what did you say, a marble”.

“No, a Warble”

“What’s a Warble”

“Are you sure you want to know?”

So, the vet told me.  I was a little grossed out, and a little amazed.  Then he squeezed the knot like he was popping a pimple.  What happened next made my eyes pop out.  Out of this little hole came a worm.  Not a worm like an earth worm, but a big fat worm, like a grub, except it had an alien head and little hairs all around.  I took a picture.  He asked me if I wanted to take it home.  It was still alive, squirming all around.  I said yes.  They flushed out the the area by squirting stuff in the little hole and said, OK, he will be fine!  Turned out that hole in his skin was from the worm eating his way through, not from Dasher doing it.

Website Design

I’ve been teaching myself about CMS (Content Management Systems), specifically, Joomla! for the past day or so.  Joomla is an open-source CMS that is widely used and easily installed on my web host.  I decided to create a website dedicated to my favorite subject, me.  You can view it at www.briangallimore.com.  It contains some simple RSS feeds and links to other websites.  I’m amazed at how flexible this system is, you can alter the way content is displayed and how and where it shows up based on all kinds of conditions, menu options, user settings, and more.  I just used the simple tools, but I did learn the basic concepts of making it all work.  I need to add some flash and sizzle now, but that is not really a strong point of mine.  I think I could really get into creating websites with tools like this, your options are endless.

Quadzilla Eats Batteries

In just one hour, I changed clothes, found my overalls, wormed into my overalls, removed the battery, drove to Autozone, argued with them, obtained a new replacement battery (for free), drove home, and installed the new battery.  Sometimes, I impress myself.  This is the third battery I’ve replaced on quadzilla.  The top-of-the-line 7-year batteries always last right at 2 years, and they always test “marginal/good” and don’t want to replace the battery.  (and they always quit when the first really cold spell hits)  My theory is that my charging system is not quite right, and something is draining my battery while the key is off.  In spite of this, everything is OK with a fresh battery.  (I’ve tried to resolve the root issues, and can’t figure them out)  If anyone has any ideas why my charging system only puts out 13.8v (should be 14.8v) let me know.  I’ve replaced the alternator (with regulator) with no change in performance.  The only modification I’ve made is relocating the jump-start terminal, adding a 2-foot length of #8 wire to the alternator’s charging wire.  I’ve jumped across that wire with a jumper cable and the voltage stayed the same, so I don’t think that is the problem.  I’d think that if the voltage-sense circuit had a bad wire (increased resistance), the regulator would overcharge the battery.  HellifIknow.  I guess I have 2 more years to figure it out now…

I ran across these on the comments section of an article. The poster claimed to find them on a “nonbeliever’s website”. Several comments were made that Christians should use caution in applying some of these principals. (#8 seemed to especially strike a nerve) I thought they were interesting; that’s why I posted them!

Christmas Pictures 3

When the question is asked, “do you want to open presents now?”, the answer is very predictable!

I think I see my name on here!

Christmas Pictures 2

We went down to central Texas one last time.  Lots of old hats were being played with, and we had lots of laughs with the gag gifts.
