Neighbors Turning Against Neighbors

A recent article from Alex Jones and published on Drudge titled “DHS Video Characterizes White Americans as Most Likely Terrorists” stirred me enough that I feel I need to share parts of it.

The Department of Homeland Security seems to be hell-bent on perpetuating the

myth that mad bombers are hiding around every corner, when in reality Americans are just as likely to be killed by lightning strikes or peanut allergies.

It is very interesting and important to take note of the fact that DHS programs like the “See Something, Say Something” which encourages people to report “suspicious activity” are

in every case throughout history … a trait of oppressive, dictatorial regimes.

I won’t go into the whole racial bullshit, but if you are a white male, you should especially be interested in reading the entire article to understand more about that aspect of what is going on here also.  Back to the primary theme:

from East Germany, to Communist Russia, to Nazi Germany, historically governments who encourage their own citizens to report on each other do so not for any genuine safety concerns or presumed benefits to security, but in order to create an authoritarian police state that coerces the people into policing each other’s behavior and thoughts

…Germans under Hitler denounced their neighbors and friends not because they genuinely believed them to be a security threat, but because they expected to selfishly benefit from doing so, both financially, socially and psychologically via a pavlovian need to be rewarded by their masters for their obedience

…This is the kind of society the Department of Homeland Security is… It is about as far removed as you can possibly get from the vision the founders of the nation had in mind when they created the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence.

Alex Jones comments at the end of the article:

This is about playing minorities off against whites, creating further resentment and suspicion, getting us at each other’s throats just as how different racial groups were set upon each other in Hitler’s Germany to create an environment of fear and distrust, motivating people to inform on each other for the state.

My Interview on the Growing Your Grub Podcast

Steve Howard with the “Growing Your Grub” podcast interviewed me about community gardening and the Citizen Gardener program.  His podcast has been a great resource for vegetable gardening information.  He had to adapt his growing techniques when he moved the the hot arid Texas climate, and often shares great tips and tricks on his show.

We discussed a little bit about how the “North Texas Vegetable Gardeners” was started, and then got to talk about the DFW Citizen Gardener program.

The Clash of Generations – NYTimes.com

the generation that came of age in the last 50 years, my generation, will be remembered most for the incredible bounty and freedom it received from its parents and the incredible debt burden and constraints it left on its kids.

via The Clash of Generations – NYTimes.com.

— The whole article is pretty good, even if you aren’t a fan of Friedman or the NYTimes, but this is the money quote!  A few of my expectations for everyone:

  • Those who voted for BO admit your bad judgement
  • Those who supported the war in Iraq to ‘fight terrorism’ admit they were wrong (I have done this)
  • Muslims denounce the radicals using your religion to kill people and control everyone else, and work to solve the problem
  • Leave the world better than you found it, especially leave your children in a better situation than you were afforded.  Massive debt and oppressive restrictions on freedom  is the opposite of this.

Ron Paul Video

Ron Paul: “We Will Default Because The Debt Is Unsustainable” | RealClearPolitics.  Super 5 minute video from Ron Paul explains our debt situation very clearly and accurately.  I don’t think he made any political friends from this one, but I sure do respect him for telling the truth!

Liberty Dollar – down but not out

Liberty Dollar – down but not out | Constitution Preservation.

The story of Bernard von NotHaus is fascinating to me and I believe a very important one to follow.    In Michael Badnarik’s latest article, he explains some of the points of Bernard’s appeal.  Here are a few quotes, please read the full article for context.

the fact that the government accuses Bernard of one thing, while submitting evidence for something altogether different. This is essentially a legal bait and switch, which is a common tactic for members of the Bar Association.

With a “come big or stay at home” attitude that I greatly respect, GATA begins by explaining how important this decision is to everyone in the United States.

GATA has an abiding interest in a correct understanding of the provisions of the U.S. Constitution regarding coinage and counterfeiting. GATA believes that the Government’s effort to use this case to end the people’s right to develop and use whatever means of exchange that they freely choose constitutes a dangerous step on the path to tyranny.

The genesis of liberty is rooted in man’s quest to be free and enjoy his unalienable right to property. No greater property exists – outside of one’s own body – than money, for money represents the product of man’s labor in its physical form. Today the government’s control of money is the greatest threat to individual liberty. The entrenched Federal Reserve banking system, hatched by bankers and politicians back in 1913, has run unchecked for 90 years and has confiscated 96% of the wealth it was created to protect.

Tiny Watermelon

This little melon fell off the vine today.  I was surprised when I cut it up to find it was a watermelon!  It has more seeds than edible fruit.

Garden Update – July 10, 2011

Lots of activity in my garden right now, but it is mostly bugs and critters eating what little can survive the massive amounts of heat of our summers in Texas.  See the other posts I made about my squash bug problem and my gooey aphid problem.  I also posted a few new pictures of the plants growing in my aquaponics system.  I’m getting a few good cucumbers and peppers, but the tomatoes have shut down.  Most of the okra is still too small to produce.  Some of my mystery melons might be ready to harvest, but I’m not sure how I’ll know until I cut into them.

  • Whose spending created your job?
  • When you create jobs, why do always create them for Texas?
  • Are strawmen cheaper when you buy them by the gross?

Bright Flashlights

I pieced together an inexpensive Surefire clone out of a Solarforce L2 body & tail switch (sized for 18650 battery), and a Cree XML (U2) drop in, 5 mode.  The Li-ion batteries showed up today so I did a little test.  These things are crazy bright.  The lights in the pictures below are 1) 3xD-cell Maglite , 2) 2x AA-cell Maglite w/ 1W LED and IQ switch upgrades, 3) P60 clone w/ XML LED and 18650 cell.

no comparison.  crazy bright!
