If there is one thing I wish everyone understood it is this: The purpose of the US Government as defined by the US Constitution is to protect the individual rights of its citizens. The rights of humans do not come from any government or from any document. Your rights as a human come from the simple fact that you exist as a human. The US Constitution (or the Bill or Rights) does not grant human rights, which are unlimited, those documents were created to preserved the human rights by limiting government’s ability to interfere or oppress people’s rights.
This article says it well: http://thefoundationforum.com/2007/05/purpose-of-u-s-constitution.html
Didn’t Chrysler beg the government for a massive, illegal, bailout, then declare bankruptcy, then illegally bypass contracts and obligations of lenders to give ownership to unions?
Isn’t Chrysler owned by an Italian company now? (Fiat)
IS THIS REALLY THE EXAMPLE OF A GREAT AMERICAN STORY OR AN AMERICAN COMEBACK?
The ‘second half’ of American history will be one of massive failure, followed by massive intervention of massive government force using illegal means and borrowed ‘money’ to pick winners and losers? Well, I guess SOME lucky people still have a job, right? (what is the real cost of printing all that money, circumventing all those contracts, stealing from some to reward others?)
I’m asking. I don’t live in Detroit. I hear is kinda sucks as far as cities go. After 50 years of socialist policy, corrupt political dealings, crony capitalism, and strong labor unions have all but destroyed what once might have been a great ‘model city’.
This LONG article is excellent… and uses Detroit as an example in part of it. It defines and address the most pressing problems we have as a nation. I highly recommend every American read it. (bias alert –this guy is in the business of selling financial advice)
I wanna hear what you think! Feel free to set me straight on these things!
We’re in a lot of trouble! You people are listening to me right now because less than 3% of you read books! The only truth you know is what you get over this tube. This tube can make or break presidents. This tube is the most awesome goddamn force in the whole godless world! And woe is us if it ever falls into the hands of the wrong people. Because this company is now in the hands of the CCA, the Communications Corporation of America. And when the twelfth largest company in the world controls the most awesome goddamn propaganda force in the whole godless world who knows what shit will be peddled for truth on this network!

To understand Ron Paul’s positions, you cannot look at them simply as for/against issues. There is much more to it. Look into what he is saying.
Drugs and Prostitution — Ron Paul does NOT want to LEGALIZE drugs or prostitution. Ron Paul wants the federal government to butt out because it is not the federal government’s job to regulate drugs and prostitution. It is the job of the states to regulate drugs and prostitution, just like they do with murder (and most other crimes). Every time he is asked that question, he says he is personally against both. To make the statement, “Ron Paul wants to legalize drugs and prostitution” is just as careless and saying, “Ron Paul is glad that murder is legal.”
Gay Marriage — Ron Paul says he has his standards but it is not his job to impose his standards on others just like he does not want other people to impose their standards on him. He says marriage is a religious thing and that if any government has anything to say about it, it should be the states, not the federal government.
What if we decided to get government completely out of the marriage business, and allowed couples to get married by whatever authority they deemed appropriate? Gay couples could get married in a church or organization that issued marriage certificates. All the Vegas wedding chapels would issue marriage certificates. And of course, good old fashioned churches would marry couples also.
Now, given that situation, what if it was shown that some marriages worked better than others?(couples were happier, more successful, had smarter kids, whatever better is, lets just say better for now) And what if there was a system of ranking the quality of marriages, and WHERE the marriage certificate was issued was reported also. So now we have a system where some marriage certificate issuers are MORE DESIRABLE because there is a correlation to BETTER MARRIAGES. There would be competition to go after these higher-rated churches/whatever-they-are-places because you are about to spend the rest of your life with one person, and obtaining the highest possible chance of having a good one is worth some extra work.
This would change the culture. People would be looked down on because they didn’t care enough about having a successful marriage to bother going to a reputable place when they got drunk and got married in a drunken stupor at Elvis’s chapel of love. Some would work for years at pre-martial counselling and workshops to ensure they had the skills to pass the more prestigious ivy-league marriage boutiques. The religious folks would argue only church weddings were acceptable. There would be real numbers and data that linked to real reputations. All kinds of rich discussion and debate would occur to decide the merits of all the different situations that would occur.
Maybe when you wanted to adopt a dog (or a baby), the adoption agency picked the ‘best’ applicant couples from the list of high quality marriage certificate providers. I don’t know, there are all kinds of possibilities here, but I’m pretty sure that some couples would be VERY serious about choosing good marriage certificate issuers. They could be ensured to have a happier life because of the more rigorous standards and tough acceptance screening process.
Introducing free-market competition into the marriage certificate business would improve our morals by shining the bright light of truth on the subject. Even if this is a goal too lofty, can we at least compromise by getting the government out of the marriage business?
