Text Message Spam

I started getting spam text messages this week. I called AT&T to see what they could do about it. Their solution was to block all text messages, incoming and outgoing. I also noticed they jacked the price up from 10 cents per message to 20 cents per message. What a rip off!

When I asked what else could be done, the customer service lady suggested I text the spammer back and tell them to stop. Hell, I’m pretty sure that is one of the worst ideas I’ve heard in a while. I can’t imagine that AT&T doesn’t have a blacklist or any sort of spam protection. This tells me they honestly don’t care much about providing their customers with the best service, just “good enough service”.

Check your Automotive Insurance Prices

When I looked into adding Betty to our insurance policy, I got a quote from a few online agencies for comparison reasons. It turns out that I’m paying a bunch more (41%) than I need to. It seems paying that cute lizard to perform all those cute TV commercials is costing me a big chunk of money. I wrote in to tell them I was about to cancel their service because they were the most expensive I found, and they responded by telling me that I was receiving their lowest rate. How about that?

Betty is Ready for Registration?

This weekend I switched around tires until I had 4 decent ones on Betty. I think I had 5 different types of tires between the two cars. The battery was dead to start with, and didn’t seem to want to hold a charge after I shut the engine off.

This evening I installed a new battery and some light bulbs for the taillights. I think that is all I need, it should pass inspection, everything seems to work. I updated my cost spreadsheet. Hopefully I’ll have time to go get it registered one day this week, then I’ll take it to get inspected.

Constant State of Disrepair

I’ve learned that the downside to all the neat vehicle modifications I’ve done is that there is always something that isn’t working right. My level switch in the water/meth tank went out, so I popped the hood to change it out. I happened to notice this.

That was a cap that I installed to plug up the port in the throttle that was being used for the PCV system. (had to re-route the hose when the supercharger was installed because PCV requires a vacuum, and the supercharger causes pressure) So this little 50-cent part was now a huge vacuum leak, plus Continue reading →

I was forwarded yet another “sign this petition and change the world” email today, but I actually participated in this one because, 1) It looks legit, and 2) it makes so much sense!
Take a look for yourself at the American Solutions website.

Don’t like $4 a gallon gas? (you think it will get cheaper?) You do realize that about $3 of each gallon is going to the cost of crude oil, right? And you do realize this money is going to evil businesses oversees? (their business practices would be considered illegal if they operated in the US) Wouldn’t it make more sense to use our own oil so that we don’t have to deal with OPEC? Keep our money in our country? Lots of things to consider… take a look and let me know what you think!
