Pregnancy, Estrogen, and Women

PREGNANCY Q & A & more!

Q: Should I have a baby after 35?
A: No, 35 children is enough.

Q : I’m two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?
A: With any luck, right after he finishes college.

Q : What is the most reliable method to determine a baby’s sex?
A: Childbirth.

Q: My wife is five months pregnant and so moody that sometimes she’s borderline irrational.
A: So what’s your question?

Q : My childbirth instructor says it’s not pain I’ll feel during labor, but pressure. Is she right?
A: Yes, in the same way that a tornado might be called an air current.

Q: When is the best time to get an epidural?
A: Right after you find out you’re pregnant.

Plug for BetterInvesting

I went to another “Model Investment Club” meeting on Saturday and wanted to share with everyone that I think this group is a great resource. One of the core members made a presentation on “surviving in a bear market”. I can tell that he has been involved in the financial market for a long time (likely longer than I’ve been alive). His advice and outlook were valuable to say the least.

In an effort to force myself to get more involved and learn more, I am going to try to join the group. Each month, a few members present their research on their stocks, and the group then votes to decide whether or not to buy or sell the stock presented. The analysis they do is a bit involved, but it appears to be a great way to understand and compare potential investments.

Heated WVO Filter

I received a key part for my waste vegetable oil (WVO) project tonight. I ordered it from Ebay. It uses an “oil cooler” from a Volkswagen and an oil filter relocation kit.

More Wisdom and Inspiration

Birth Certificate shows that we were born, A Death Certificate shows that we died, Pictures show that we lived!

I Believe…
That just because two people argue, it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other. And just because they don’t argue, it doesn’t mean they do love each other.

I Believe…
That we don’t have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

I Believe…
That no matter how good a friend is, they’re going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I Believe…
That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love..

25 Lessons “The Simpsons” Taught Me About Eating

This post has some of the greatest advice in it about eating. (and it is funny too)

7) Portion sizes have increased tremendously in America over the last few decades, and are a giant factor in U.S. weight gain. This is especially true for restaurant food and takeout.

Homer: Is this the biggest steak you got? 72 oz.? I thought this was supposed to be a steakhouse, not a little girly, underpantsy, pink doily, tea party place!
Waiter: Well, we do have one steak available upon special request. We call it Sir Loin-A-Lot. It’s the size of a boogieboard.
Homer: Ooh, I’ll have that one! And to drink … meatballs.

Victory Gardens

During WW2, 40% of America’s vegetables came from victory gardens – that is, people’s back yards.

Food travels an average 1500 miles before you eat it.

Flexitarians

I was reading the introduction of the new cookbook I received, and found a few things interesting enough to share. (from Mark Bittman‘s How to Cook Everything Vegetarian)

Flexitarians: Recently invented word that describes both vegetarians who aren’t that strict and meat-eaters who are striving for a more health-conscious, planet-friendly diet.

What flexitarians and vegetarians have in common is the willingness to base meals exclusively on vegetables.

A diet that is high in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes is a healtheir diet than one that isn’t. The evidence to support this hasn’t changed much over the years, except to become more compelling, as it will continue to do.

Sounds exactly like the main point of The China Study!

…raw, more-or-less unadulterated vegetables, fruits, grains, and beans are among the least profitable items restaurants and supermarkets can sell. The real money is made on so-called “value-added” products… A head of romaine lettuce might weigh a pound and cost two dollars. Chop it up and toss in some shredded cabbage and carrots, and you can sell a quarter pound for three or four dollars. Stick a piece of cooked chicken on top… eight dollars.

Time Warner Cable – Customer Service (oxymoron)

For anyone that is unfortunate enough to have spent time with me in person, you might have already heard parts of this story, because it has been going on for some time. I’ll be as brief as possible:

August 2007 – Switched to using Time Warner Cable for my Internet access. It started with a phone call telling me he had the alley hooked up and needed me to open my garage door. When I did, he wasn’t there. He was on the other side of main street, on North Arbor Ridge instead of South Arbor Ridge. The “independent contractor” did get it all hooked it up with a temporary line running from my alley and I was very pleased with my increase in bandwidth over Grande Communications (CoServe) DSL. He said another contractor would be back in 2 weeks to bury the line.

2 weeks pass. No contractor. I make a phone call and I’m told they would be there next week. I ask about the typo on my address and he tells me I should wait until this open work order gets done or making the change will screw up my place in line.

2 more weeks pass. Line still laying in yard. Another phone call.

No More Headaches

A woman comes home and tells her husband, ‘Remember those headaches I’ve been having. All these years? Well, they’re gone.’
‘No more headaches?’ the husband asks, ‘What happened?’

His wife replies, ‘Margie referred me to a hypnotist & he told me to stand in front of a mirror, stare at myself and repeat,
I do not have a headache.
I do not have a headache.
I do not have a headache.
Well, it work ed! The headaches are all gone.’
‘Well, that is wonderful!’ proclaims the husband.

His wife then says, ‘You know, you haven’t been exactly a ball of fire in the bedroom these last few years. Why don’t you go see the hypnotist and see if he can do anything for that?’

Reluctantly, the husband agrees to try it.
Following his appointment, the husband comes home, rips off his clothes, picks up his wife, and carries her into the bedroom. He puts her on the bed and says, ‘Don’t move, I’ll be right back.’
