Something I always get started on too late in the year is a vegetable garden. I have 6 raised beds in the backyard, but 5 of them have soil that is pretty much unusable because they have so many rocks and other junk mixed in with the good stuff. I finally made a screen contraption and started getting the dirt in order. It takes me about 4 hours to get through one bed, because I am slow.
So now I’ve got beautiful dirt in a couple beds, I just need to hook up the water lines and I will be ready to plant something.
