Where Drug Bust Exotic Pets Wind Up

We had our Texas Master Naturalist meeting in an interesting facility tonight– a place owned by the city of Plano that is kind of an outdoor classroom for Plano schools. It is not open to the public (funny to me that we call them public schools — why not be honest and call them socialized education facilities?) but we had an insiders deal to hang out there tonight. They do a lot of rescue work, and it turns out about half (my estimate) of their non-releasable animals came from drug busts out of Dallas county! Lots of interesting caged animals, see pictures below (and lucky for you you I can’t share the smell with you!) I imagine this is a real treat for a school field trip, lots of cool stuff to see and learn about.

DR Horton Sucks, Part 3

Improperly made electrical connections are a pet peeve of mine, especially when they are in my own house with the potential to burn it down! This picture below is the reason our dishwasher quit working tonight. Notice that joint had been hot enough to blacken the insulation, which means it was hot enough to start a fire. The inside of the junction box had black marks also. (at least it was in a junction box!)

This is the second wiring problem I’ve found that has resulted in failure. Luckily, neither caused a fire. I can’t help but to think the builder, DR Horton, does not hire quality electricians, and they don’t properly supervise their electricians, and they don’t properly inspect their own work. Combine that with the fact they couldn’t figure out why the back door leaked for the first 2 years, and I am comfortable making the statement publicly that “DR Horton Sucks”.

The Distortion of Our Language

First of all, I use words incorrectly. Usually it is because my brain misfires and I say the antonym of the word I need to use because I’m thinking about the contrast as I talk. However, it is a mistake. There is something else that happens frequently today: using the opposite meaning of words on purpose, and the reasons are pretty nefarious. Take a look at this:

The Legacy of Andrew Breitbart

Andrew Breitbart – February 1, 1969 to March 1, 2012
I want my Legacy to be, that they know that they screwed with the wrong guy.
In the United States of America you have the right to think freely,
you have the right to do whatever you want…. the idea that the Democrat Media Complex will tell you that you are a slave to an ideology… to a mindset that if you don’t abide by it, we are going to punish you severely — that’s as un-American as anything I can possibly imagine. I don’t care if you agree with me or disagree with me on policy, what I care about is that you have the freedom in this country to run your life as a free, rugged individualist. I am at war with anybody who would tell you that you don’t have a right to be a free man.

Monster Truck Jam at Cowboys Stadium

Amber and I took Bryson to see the Monster Truck Jam today at the giant silver cockroach. (shout out to all the Arlington taxpayers, thanks for the subsidized facility, it is nice!) They make these events fun. The stadium was packed full too, lots of screaming kids. Crazy stuff. In between main events, they even have fun racing action, like 4-wheelers and a junker demolition match. I was blown away by the bombardment of marketing too. Serious work goes into planting desire into the little ones to use dad’s money to buy stupid plastic crap. $15 cotton candy, yup, they had that too.

What is a Right?

Words matter, it is how we communicate! When people change the meaning of words, it seems like one of two things is happening 1- they want to manipulate the situation or 2- ignorance of the true definition. The word ‘right’ gets misuse more often than not:
