BenghaziGate

Blowback + Cover Up
One week before the big finish to the horse race we call presidential elections and the big story that is not being reported by the mainstream media (except maybe Fox News) is BangahaziGate. At the core of the story is the question: “what was Chris Stevens doing at the time of the attack?” Well, it looks like he was making a deal to put guns in the hands of Syrian and Libyan rebels / jihadists.
It is our (as in the Republican and Democrat leadership of the USA) foreign policy to arm and support folks like Osama Bin Laden. (which is precisely what we did years ago)
The neocon Republicans are focused on the part of the story that shows how incompetent  the Democrats are. (or how evil they are, depending on what actually happened inside the White House).  Highlights of this storyline:

  • BO’s failure to call this a terrorist attack; trying to paint it as a protest spurred by a youtube video
  • Failure to provide security resources in areas where needed, failure to support American government employees oversees in danger
  • The two former SEALs were told not to help, but disobeyed orders and helped anyway, and eventually lost their lives
  • The SEALs had enemy mortar launchers painted with laser designators, with gun ships flying in the area that could have taken them out, but were denied assistance (by the BO administration)
  • Probable cover-up, as BO likely knew exactly what was happening when it happened, and choose to try to keep from looking bad.

As if that part of the story wasn’t interesting enough, the more important part is to back up a little bit and figure out why the attack occurred in the first place.  This line of questioning gets into the subject of  ‘actions have consequences’.  Neocons hate to admit that arming, funding, and training militant groups to overthrow governments oversees might have some unintended consequences.  So while the ‘right-wingers’ are criticizing BO (rightfully so), we won’t hear this part of the story.  And while BO is filling the position of president, we don’t seem to hear any of the ‘left-wingers’ criticizing these Bush/Cheney policies they hated so much just a few years ago.

Apathy and Liberty

The video is a little too dramatic in the beginning, but listen with an open mind and you will get the meaning.

The Dependency Agenda

  • When Medicare was adopted, the elderly were the wealthiest group of Americans, as they are today
  • In 1979, the majority of federal transfer payments went to the poor; today 64% goes to the middle and upper classes
  • Massive federal entitlement programs, whatever their motives, NO NOT WORK
  • Health outcomes from Medicaid patients are worse than patients that have no insurance at all
  •  Medicare and Social Security have not reduced poverty among seniors
  • Current unfunded liabilities under the two systems of Social Security and Medicare amount to more than all the money in the world

Exploding Sink

Our A/C condensate drain has been clogged up. Luckily, we had paid the A/C guy extra to add a ball valve and schrader valve to the line to make cleaning it out a breeze. I should know better, none of my projects are a breeze! I climbed up in the attic to attach the hose and Amber stood on the ground with control of the air valve. I got it connected and told her to go. I could hear air moving, so I figured it worked. She started yelling, stop! STOP! Turns out all the gunk in the line (and it was substantial) made it down to the bathroom sink, but it decided to turn up toward the walls, ceiling, and everywhere instead of stay down in the drain where it was welcome. We managed to get it all cleaned up, but I scrubbed the paint off the walls in some places. And how in the hell do you clean popcorn textured ceiling? Here are some pictures of the mess:

Ford Hates Oil Pressure Gauges

Back when Ford was making the jelly-bean shaped pickups, they wired a pressure switch signal to the pressure gauge (instead of a real pressure signal).  This had the effect of moving the needle on the oil pressure gauge to one point and never moving.  So you had a gauge that acted like a light; it was either on or off.  The reason for this (as I understand it) is that customers were complaining about low oil pressure.  (Many of the complaints were surely from idiots)  So today I noticed that the wide selection of digital gauges available on the Ford Mustang is missing the oil pressure.  You can read cylinder head temperature, air/fuel ratio, transmission temperature, intake air temperature, but not the very important oil pressure!

Homemade Mouse Trap

We have a devious mouse in our garage that doesn’t fall for the variety of snap traps or glue traps we have set.  I built a homemade mouse trap from a 5 gallon bucket, piece of wire, piece of PVC pipe, and a scrap piece of wood.  Some peanut butter is placed on the PVC pipe.  The mouse should smell the peanut butter, climb up the board, venture out on the pipe to get the peanut butter, lose its balance and fall into the bucket with water in it.  It won’t be able to swim forever, so it will eventually drown.  The nice thing about this style of trap is that it can catch several rodents without having to be reset.  Some people put some oil in the water, which forms a smell barrier on the top so it won’t smell as bad if you have to leave the trap alone for a long time.
