My Best Friend, the Rabbit

Bryson took a special liking to a plastic rabbit in Glenda’s garden.

We never did get a good picture of the action, but he would carry it off into the yard, and then give it one of his open-mouth kisses. Continue reading

Bryson Takes an Interest in the Computer

Bryson was filling the house up with loud giggling this morning. He climbed into the chair in front of Amber’s laptop and was giving it hell.

Here is some video so you get an idea of the noise this boy was producing

Betty Makes a Decent Grocery Getter

I didn’t get around to changing the transmission oil like I had planned on, but I did fix the transmission shifting problem I was having. All I had to do was adjust the tension on a cable connected to the IP linkage and it started shifting at the right time. I learned that the transmission behavior is all adjustable through vacuum switches, valves, and gizmos. (I don’t know all the terminology yet.)

I also got the new hood star put on… now I have some cross hairs to use so I know what I’m aiming at.

Garage CleanOut

Amber and I worked on getting the garage cleaned out… it was a mess. (still is a mess to a lesser degree) I had stuff stashed everywhere and had become so frustrated that I began to not even try to keep it organized because I figured it was a lost cause.

To start with, we re-organized the shed to make better use of the space. We bought 16 feet of shelving yesterday at Sams. Here is the before picture.

Here we have the old set of shelves pushed against the wall and have the new shelves in place. Continue reading

Fullfilling my need to blow stuff up

We went out to Eagle Mountain lake for the annual Cayce Party. I stopped at a fireworks stand on the way and loaded up on an assortment of toys. Although many of the fireworks look the same now as they did when I was a youngin, they are not the same. The standard roman candle, sucks… the fireballs don’t even go 20 foot. (they do make big ones I learned, because someone let me shoot one of theirs off… you better be hanging on to it when it goes off)

I Stopped Drinking Milk

Based on the information I read in “The China Study” so far, I’ve stopped drinking milk. Chapter 3 explained his early experiments where he introduced a toxin that caused liver cancer into the diet of rats… and of course they developed liver cancer. What he was able to do next was what blew me away. He was able to STOP and start the growth of cancer by varying the amount of protein (specifically, he used milk protein). Feeding them a diet of around 5% protein caused cancer to stop, increasing to 20% caused it to start growing. I think most American’s eat about 30% protein in their diets. He later shows that only animal proteins support cancer growth, plant proteins do not.

“Only REAL men have heart disease”
In chapter 5 he talks about heart disease. He explained research starting in 1946 where heart attack survivors were split into 2 groups. Group 1 continued their normal diet, group 2 ate a diet very low in fat and meat. After 8 years, 24% of group 1 was alive while 56% from group 2 was alive. After 12 years, all the group 1 participants were dead, and 38% of group 2 were alive. He also explains why we are so Continue reading

Lizard birth

Just after dinner one night, my son came up to tell me there was ‘something wrong’ with one of the two lizards he holds prisoner in his room.

‘He’s just lying there looking sick,’ he told me. ‘I’m serious, Dad. Can you help?’

I put my best lizard-healer expression on my face and followed him into his bedroom. One of the little lizards was indeed lying on his back, looking stressed. I immediately knew what to do.

‘Honey,’ I called, ‘come look at the lizard!’

‘Oh, my gosh!’ my wife exclaimed. ‘She’s having babies.’

‘What?’ my son demanded. ‘But their names are Bert and Ernie, Mom!’

I was equally outraged.

‘Hey, how can that be? I thought we said we didn’t want them to reproduce,’ I said accusingly to my wife.
