Last night at a time when I should have been asleep, I was opening up my pepper and tomato seed packets and planting one of each variety in a little seed starter tray. I tried to be as smart as possible, and went alphabetical from left to right, starting at the top. I also took pictures in case I forgot what I planted.

Bryson Understands

Sappy Blogish Alert.

When I was giving Bryson his bath tonight, I looked up from reading my book (Square Foot Gardening– if you are interested in backyard vegetable gardening, you must read this book!) and caught him pushing the soap dispenser again. Just 10 minutes earlier I explained to him that was not a toy and he was not to play with it. I turned on my mean daddy voice and said, “BRYSON!”. He convulsed and immediately jerked away from the soap bottle, obviously aware that he just got caught doing something he wasn’t supposed to be doing. Then he looked at me (I was giving him my best “you did something wrong” face) and he started crying. After he calmed back down he was fine, but I was very touched… My interpretation of the situation is that he really does want to do what I want, but he is overwhelmed by what is right in front of him and doesn’t always make the right choice. I think I hear this story almost every Sunday… Very powerful.

Next, as we were getting dressed, he freaked out when the fastener tab pulled off the diaper (damn Kimberly Clark bonder!). He kept repeating “ahat ooohhh”. He was nearly devastated, even after I had a new diaper installed. I had to explain that it broke and we would just have to throw it away. (I don’t think he understood the whole part about quality control and how finicky the special Huggies ultrasonic rotary bonding equipment was) He just wasn’t sure how we were going to move on past this terrible disaster!

OK, kinda pointless, but I felt like sharing.

New President

There’s No Pleasing Some Women

Since I spent the whole weekend working on the garden, I didn’t get to my brake lines on Betty. I came home tonight determined to get them changed out. As I went outside in the dark, I thought how nice it would be to work on the car in the garage instead of outside in the driveway.

Way back this summer, we actually cleaned the garage to a point that a car could almost be parked in it. There were a few remaining things that needed to be taken care of, and those things have prevented full garage usage ever since. I decided to just push everything to the side and make it work tonight. This picture represents the very first time a vehicle has ever entered into this garage. The house is 6 1/2 years old.

Another Productive Day Prepping the Garden

I somehow managed to convince Amber it was a good idea to stop at Home Depot on the way home from church today. “I just need some potting soil and fertilizer”. It is never just a few items from that store though, so after I loaded up two carts full of cedar mulch, humus, potting soil, two types of organic fertilizer, light bulbs, pipe fittings, some seeds, and seed starters, we finally paid for it and left. I forgot we were in her SUV instead of my pickup, so I had to be very careful how I loaded everything to not dirty up the “princess’s sleigh”.

While looking for something else on the irrigation isle, I found this nifty “auto drain”. I assumed it was like the breaker on our hydrants, which opens up if the pressure is low, allowing all the water to escape instead of freezing and busting your pipe. I bought a tee fitting and a close nipple because I knew just where I wanted to install it.

Seed Overload

All the seeds I’ve been ordering came in the mail. I’m overwhelmed with variety. My wife is sure I’m nuts. Several people were interested in sharing seeds with me. Everything I have is here, so let me know what you want.

Bryson’s House

Bryson loves his little house. He spends a great deal of energy going in and out, through every way possible. I moved it to a new part of the deck today and that made it seem like a whole new experience to him.
