Besides getting my laundry done, I wanted to adventure out on my day off. I decided that an airboat ride out to see alligators would be fun, so I searched and found an alligator farm on the edge of the Everglades. This place got started as an airboat ride attraction, then added an alligator farm in the 80s when the government allowed the breeding of the animals. The boats are big enough to seat 5 across in 5 rows, and are powered by a 500 CID Cadillac V8. The driver would take us up to about 40MPH, and flip the rear of the boat around, putting us in a 360 degree spin, pretty fun stuff.
This is one of the grow out pens for the baby alligators.
A big crocodile.
This is the alligator breeding pond.
This is guy who does the alligator shows. I was amazed to see he still had all of his fingers. I got to hold one of the 2-year old alligators after the show was over.
These skins show the difference between a crocodile and an alligator.
On the way home, I had to stop at the “Robert is Here” food stand. It was crazy busy, cars lined up everywhere, a guy singing, I knew there would be something good to find.
Tomatoes. Vine ripened, heirloom. Free samples. Yum!
There was livestock out back. What a strange place.
I stood in the long line and bought one of their famous milkshakes. It was very tasty.
I’m glad you saw some local sites.
That photo of the massive quantity of alligators gives me the chills…yikes.
