3 Things to Know Before Shopping at ALDI

I stopped by the ALDI grocery store in Plano today to take advantage of their 99cent/lb strawberry deal and learned a few things the hard way that everyone needs to know before attempting to shop there.

  1. You have to start with a quarter.  A real quarter, in your pocket.  I thought I was doing a guy a big favor by meeting a him in the parking lot to take his cart from him.  He gave me a strange look and said, “do you have a quarter?”  It was then that I figured out what the strange locking mechanism on the handle was…. You have to place a quarter in the lock to get a cart, then you get your quarter back when you return your cart.  Freeking genius, but I sure looked like an idiot.
  2. They don’t take credit cards!
  3. They don’t have bags, sacks, or anyone to bag your groceries!  They do have a counter-top for you to bag your own damn groceries though!  (provided you brought your own damn bags!)

If you find yourself bitching about how bad things are in the USA, just drop by your local ALDI store to get a taste of what the rest of the world is like!

Your so funny. I can’t believe you didn’t know those three things already. It was all over the news when they first came into town. And, I am shocked that you don’t use reusable bags anyway! :)

Aldi has some okay things. I have a few snacky type things that I get there, but I have never seen any produce that was worth the price.

What are your thoughts on non-organic strawberries? They are at the top of the list of fruits/veggies that are not good to get ‘regular'(ie, nonorganic). Oh heck, what are you thoughts on that list? You know the list, right? I think carrots are at the top as well.
