Letter to All of my Friends

A letter to all that might read this:

I’m sincerely concerned about the future of my favorite country, the USA. I had a bit of an awakening this presidential election cycle, and the more I continue to learn, the more concerned I get.

Serving a public office in the US was originally intended to be a duty/service that all people were supposed to be willing to do for a period of time, and then move on with their lives. Now, being in politics is a career, and for many, a very lucrative career. Fleecing taxpayers in new and creative ways and furthering politician’s self-interest seem to be common now. The folks who founded this country developed a set of rules to limit the size and power of the federal government and ensure personal liberty; many of these
safeguards have been circumvented to allow unprecedented central control that goes against what we should be doing if we value the ideals that our country was founded with.

My life is fine, why should I care?
If you have a family or care about the generations to come, then the answer is simple. What is happening now will have long lasting effects that will likely cause younger people to live in a country where there is less freedom and less prosperity. The issues of racking up mountains of public debt and devaluing our dollar are cause enough, never mind the list of other issues.

Why act?
You and I are, in part, the cause of these problems, and we are all responsible for these problems. Our government requires good people to run, and we have allowed career politicians to step in and run things the way they see fit. We have the responsibility to speak up when we see something wrong, and work to make it better.

A Conservative Activist?
Conservative Activist is a contradiction in terms. Conservatives are not activists. They tend to mind their own and take care of their own. However, we are being pushed into action as we see the safe guards of our society being overrun by a government blatantly disregarding the restrictions placed upon it by the Constitution.

OK, so I told you all of that so I can tell you this:

On July 4, a grass-roots group of people in the Dallas area are throwing a big “tea-party” event. Their goals are simple:
1- Limited Government
2- Fiscal Responsibility
3- Personal Responsibility
4- Restore The Rule of Law
5- Advocate a Secure and Sovereign Nation

The event is free, and includes a BIG fireworks show at dark, and has some great speakers coming out. The Dallas group has a pretty nice website set up with more information at
http://dallasteaparty.org/2009/06/americasteaparty/ so check that out.

Please consider coming out to this family event to find out more and get involved. It should be fun too!

“The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from great courage to abundance; form abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back again to bondage.” Alexander Tyler
